Please join Haitian and Dominican lawyers, activists, students, and community members raising awareness on the denationalization crisis of Dominicans of Haitian descent.

Friday, February 26, 2015:

12pm: Rally for Awareness on the Denationalization Crisis and Anti-Haitian Campaign in the Dominican Republic.

6:30pm: Candlelight Vigil for “Tulile”, Haitian man lynched in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

Joins us for a full day of learning, discussion, and free arts workshops to denounce the Dominican Tribunal court rulings that stripped Dominicans of Haitian and other descent of their citizenship.

Through fun and creative arts exercises participants will reflect about the danger of xenophobia, racism, anti-immigration policies, and deportations worldwide. And they will have an opportunity to share their collectively created art with each other as well as with officials who have a power to undo these unethical rulings.

Workshops will be facilitated in English and Spanish. All ages welcome!

Los invitamos a que formen parte de un día lleno de aprendizaje, discusiones y talleres de artes libre de costo en solidaridad con las comunidades dominicanas de ascendencia haitiana que han sido desnacionalizadas tras las sentencias impuestas por Tribunal Constitucional de la República Dominicana.

Mediante ejercicios divertidos y creativos, podrán reflexionar y crear en torno al peligro de la xenofobia, el racismo, las políticas anti-migratorias y las deportaciones a nivel mundial. También tendrán la oportunidad de compartir el arte creado con todas las personas presentes y con los funcionarios/as que tienen el poder de estas sentencias inmorales.

Los talleres serán ofrecidos en español y en inglés. ¡Gente de todas las edades será bienvenida!

Join us for a free public event addressing the recent ruling of the Dominican Constitutional Court that revoked the citizenship of a large number of Dominicans of Haitian descent.

We are honored to present a distinguished panel, as well as two keynote speakers arriving from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic:

  • Ana Maria Belique, an advocate for human rights with Reconoci.do, directly impacted by the ruling.
  • Juan Bolivar Diaz, an award winning journalist with Hoy Newspaper, Host of Uno Mas Uno political tv program and member of the Comité De Solidaridad Con Las Personas Desnacionalizadas.

The powerful documentary Birthright Crisis will be screened. Diasporic activities concerning the ruling, many involving students, will be highlighted. The event will also open with a live rara performance that will get you on your feet.  Join us for this important discussion.
